What’s Bloomin’ | Forsythia

With its bright yellow flowers, nothing shouts SPRING like forsythia. This large shrub – it can grow over 6’ – blooms in late March/early April. To encourage abundant flowering (and to help control its size) prune forsythia AFTER it flowers. Next spring’s flowers form on the stems that will grow throughout this summer.

For a fun combo, plant a few dozen grape hyacinth bulbs under a forsythia (mark your calendar cuz spring flowering bulbs need to be planted in the fall so they can “chill” over the winter). Both bloom at the same time and the tiny purple hyacinths are a lovely contrast to the forsythia’s yellow flowers.
