What’s Bloomin’ | Coneflowers & Coreopsis

Echinacea, commonly known as coneflower, are perennial favorites and will flower June through September. They thrive in rich soil and full sun, but will bloom in partial shade. Some varieties can grow to 3 to 4 feet and produce flowers 4-6 inches across. Coneflowers are terrific choices for a perennial border as a showy backdrop for low-growing summer annuals or perennials. If you leave the spent flower heads on the plants, finches will love you…echinacea seeds are one of their favorite foods.

Coreopsis, or tickseed, is a great companion plant for coneflowers. A sturdy perennial, coreopsis needs full sun and well- drained soil. Favorites are ‘Moonbeam’ and ‘Zagreb’ loved by gardeners for their lacy foliage and abundant yellow flowers. Coreopsis grows to 18-24 inches high, perfect for the front of the flower border.
