What’s Bloomin’ | Joe Pye Weed

A must for your late-season garden is Joe-Pye Weed. Don’t be fooled by the humble name, for this native dazzles with large clusters of pink, purple, or white flowers on plants that can rise as high as 6 or even 8 feet tall. These towering beauties are pretty dramatic in a fall garden; if you don’t have room for such a boisterous grower, choose one of the more restrained cultivars, such as the aptly named ‘Little Joe’ that fit more easily into many landscapes. All the Joes do best in moist soil in full sun to light shade, and are butterfly magnets.
